"Soldiers' Nude Wedding Frolic"

That's the real headline in the Northern Territory News. Who could possibly improve on it?

DARWIN soldiers are being investigated by Military Police for a nude frolic through a world-famous vineyard as a wedding took place.

The soldiers, on an army training course at Bandiana base in Albury-Wodonga, were visiting the landmark All Saints winery in Rutherglen when the incident occurred last Saturday.

Three or four soldiers, part of a small group on a winery tour, are said to have undressed and run through the vineyard's grape vines.

A wedding was in progress at the historic winery at the time. However it is thought the soldiers did not disturb the wedding.

The army suspended all leave privileges for the soldiers on the course and confined them to base for the remainder of the weekend.

Military Police are now investigating the incident and the men are likely to face disciplinary action.

The commanding officer of the Army School of Administration and Health Lieutenant Colonel Iain Muir said he was disappointed by the incident.

"We don't like our soldiers behaving like this," he said.

Lt-Col Muir said the Army was aware the men had been fooling around and would determine the facts of the incident. Lt-Col Muir would not confirm whether the men were from Darwin.

He said it was still being determined whether they were fully nude.

Lt-Col Muir said it was thought the soldiers had not disturbed the wedding.

A number of soldiers from the Top End-based 1st Brigade are attending the course in Albury-Wodonga.
